Summer camp, lifeguard and recreation job interview practice
Camps, pools and rec centers hire people who keep kids safe, follow the rules and bring energy every day. Your interview is your chance to show you are patient, responsible and a good role model.
Here is what to expect, how to prepare, and sample questions you can practice by typing.
What to expect
What the interview is like
Camp interviews are often with a camp director or aquatics supervisor, in person or by video, and can include scenario questions about kids. Lifeguard jobs also require a certification and a skills test, which are separate from the interview.
Expect questions about experience with younger kids (babysitting, siblings, coaching and volunteering all count), handling a homesick or misbehaving camper, conflicts between kids, safety, and working with other staff.
Game plan
How to prepare
- List the ways you have been around younger kids, even informally: siblings, babysitting, coaching, church or community programs.
- Practice scenario answers: stay calm, keep everyone safe first, follow the camp rules and your training, and tell a supervisor.
- Think of a time you were patient with someone, and a time you led or taught a small group.
- Show energy and enthusiasm: say what you would love to do with campers.
