Fast food and restaurant job interview practice
Crew member, host, server, dishwasher: restaurant managers hire for attitude. They want someone who stays calm in a rush, helps the team, and keeps things clean and safe.
Here is what a restaurant interview is usually like, how to get ready, and sample questions you can practice right now by typing.
What to expect
What the interview is like
Many restaurant interviews take 10 to 20 minutes with a manager or shift lead, sometimes on the spot when you drop off an application. Some chains start with an online questionnaire.
Expect questions about evenings and weekends, why you want to work there, how you handle a busy rush, what you would do with a wrong order or an unhappy guest, and working with a team. Food safety basics, like washing hands and asking a manager about allergies, come up too.
Game plan
How to prepare
- Know which evenings and weekends you can work and how you will get there.
- Think of a time you stayed calm when things got busy, at school, in sports or at home.
- Practice your answer to an upset guest: listen, apologize, fix what you can, and get a manager when needed.
- For allergy questions, the safe answer is never to guess: check the allergen information or ask a manager.
- Show you are a team player: an example of helping someone without being asked works well.
