Grocery store and warehouse job interview practice
Bagging, stocking shelves, picking orders: grocery and warehouse jobs are great first jobs. Supervisors want people who are reliable, work at a steady pace, follow safety rules and help customers politely.
This guide explains what the interview is usually like, how to prepare, and sample questions you can practice free.
What to expect
What the interview is like
Expect a short interview with a store or department supervisor. Some stores interview several applicants at once or ask a few questions by phone first.
Common questions cover your availability (early mornings and weekends are common), physical work and safety, helping a customer find something, dealing with a spill or a price problem, and teamwork.
Game plan
How to prepare
- Be ready to talk about your schedule, including early shifts if you can do them.
- Know the safe answers: ask for help with something too heavy to lift, and block off and report a spill right away.
- Prepare an example of doing a repetitive or tiring task well, like chores, a team practice or a long school project.
- Practice helping a customer politely when you do not know where something is: walk them over or find someone who knows.
